Learn how to build fundamental skills with Mia, Codie & iBlocks!

The Mia & Codie learning experience features a variety of endearing characters. These include Mia, Codie the robot, Evu the emu, and Velvet the elephant!

Mia & Codie is a playful, hands-on system for building the Foundational Thinking Skills behind early computer science. It replaces text-heavy code with tactile play and visual iconography. Students choose Thinking Blocks (e.g., forward, turn, wait, etc.), place them into the Block Dock, and press play for instant visual feedback in the companion app. The system is continuously growing with screen-free learning materials and the short, thought-provoking Mia & Codie animated episodes that started it all.

Setting the Foundation

This intuitive system redefines early learning by combining standards-aligned instruction with deep character development. Through Mia & Codie’s easy-to-use platform and engaging short videos, students are challenged to practice teamwork, navigate emotions, and share empathy while building foundational thinking skills.

These cognitive foundations drive success in key areas such as literacy, math, and even AI readiness. They also provide the perfect first step for early learners before they dive into real-world inquiry with Teq’s iBlocks.

Mia & Codie transforms foundational skill-building into an exciting, interactive experience.

Aligning Mia & Codie with iBlocks Project-Based Learning Experiences

Why do Mia & Codie pair so well with the iBlocks journey? Well, the most conspicuous connection is the groundwork for STEM, coding, and robotics – a facet of many iBlock pathways. However, the correlation extends much deeper than early programming. It delves into critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving, along with cognitive flexibility and working memory. Students learn to navigate sequencing, pattern recognition, symbolic and spatial reasoning, cause and effect, predictive skills, debugging, iteration, and so much more.

By setting the foundation early with these skills, Mia & Codie and iBlocks equips pre-readers to take on innovative projects. When they embark on an iBlock, they’ll have a complete toolkit to navigate the Engineering Design Process. After mastering the core fundamentals with Mia & Codie, students will be ready to step into the Engineering Design Process and Inquiry-Based Thinking. Plus, both solutions offer turnkey experiences for teachers, including ready-to-use lessons, activities, practical tips, and professional development resources.

It’s the kind of solution you must see in action. From witnessing even the youngest preschoolers get captivated by the storytelling and hands-on manipulatives to seeing how seamlessly the learning scaffolds through the early years, the impact is clear! You have to check out Mia & Codie for yourself.
